If a student is reported to be struggling in any of the above domains, a Learner Success Coordinator may organise a meeting with the student to help them develop an Individual Development Plan.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>If any students are feeling lonely, home sick, anxious and need someone to talk to, the Learner Success Team is there for support. Tutors and teachers can also provide support.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Please do not be afraid to ask for help. Mentors are academic members of staff, but don\u2019t necessarily teach the student (mentee). This is another person to contact if students have any concerns, queries, or problems.<\/p><p>The Mentor will work with the Learner Success Team to meet with students throughout the programme to discuss students\u2019 interests, give students advice, and talk about the student\u2019s progress after reports are issued. They will also run a series of workshops (Mentor Workshops) that will help students advance in key areas related to their studies. For example, note-taking, academic integrity, and time management.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The Mentor is a responsible adult who is there to assist. If a student is in class, they are marked as present.<\/p><p>If a student is not in class, for whatever reason, they are marked absent.<\/p><p>If a student is absent for medical reasons they must provide a medical certificate dated the day they are sick from a registered New Zealand doctor, then it is most likely that the absence will be recorded as an M. This type of absence will be marked as \u201cE\u201d for explained.<\/p><p>This type of absence counts against you for the purposes of meeting visa requirements. UoAIC regularly reviews attendance to make sure students are meeting study and visa requirements. If you have frequent medical absences, our team will contact you to check on your wellbeing, discuss your progress, and offer support if needed. In some cases, you may be asked to meet with staff to plan how to continue or re-enrol in your studies.
